The Scariest Tablet Repair Mistakes

A broken tablet makes it impossible to work, stream, shop, or participate in social media, which quickly becomes inconvenient and frustrating for you. Even more inconvenient, though, is ignoring the problem with your tablet and allowing it to worsen before taking it to a professional.

The good news is—most tablet damage is repairable and affordable, especially if you come to Wireless Revolution! You can count on us for cheap iPad repair.

In this blog, we’ll discuss common issues with tablets and ways to prevent these issues from worsening.

Cracked Screen

The most common tablet or iPad repair issue we see is a cracked or shattered screen, typically from dropping the tablet. Time is of the essence with this issue; the longer you wait to have your screen repaired, the more it could crack and break. Eventually, it might even become unresponsive to touch. Fortunately, cracked screens are relatively simple to repair or replace, so as long as you get to a repair shop as soon as it breaks, your tablet will likely recover.

Broken Camera

Yes—tablet cameras take great photos too! That’s why it’s so frustrating when your tablet’s camera isn’t working. Whether your photos are coming out blurry or the camera is simply failing to start, the most efficient way to get it back up and running is by taking it to a professional tablet or iPad repair shop.

Sometimes turning the power on and off will do the trick, but if that doesn’t work, talking to a tablet repair expert is the most efficient next step.

Broken Home Button

If you own an older version of the iPad, you might run into the problem of a broken home button. If the home button is stuck, missing, or simply not working, it may be time to visit Wireless Revolution to get it replaced.

Before stopping by our store, make sure you thoroughly clean on or around the home button in case the problem is just dirt or dust stuck in the button. If the home button still doesn’t work after cleaning it, bring it to us for a quick and affordable replacement! Don’t worry about iPad repair prices. We pride ourselves on our budget-friendly services.

Water Damage

Did you accidentally spill your drink on your tablet? Or drop it in the sink? Water damage is another time-sensitive issue because the longer your tablet soaks in moisture, the more internal and external damage it will face because of that moisture. So don’t hesitate to take it to an iPad repair shop ASAP!

To prevent future water damage, just remember that just because your tablet is water-resistant, that doesn’t mean it is waterproof!

Broken Battery

Old or broken batteries can be detrimental to your device. If your tablet won’t hold a charge or gets extremely hot when you use it, the battery should be replaced before it ruptures. Again, don’t wait to get your battery replaced, not just because of the inconvenience that a broken battery causes, but also because of the potential dangers of the battery leaking chemicals either into your device or outside of it.

iPad Repair

Thankfully, a broken battery is easy to detect and, in the right technician’s hands, fairly easy to replace.

Luckily for you, Wireless Revolution handles each of these common tablet issues and can have your device working like new in no time. So go ahead and google “iPad repair store near me” or “iPad repair near me” to find a professional technician today!

Students: What to Do When Your Laptop Breaks

School is back in session – and you’re already exhausted. Chances are, your laptop or desktop is too. Even if you’ve invested in a MacBook 15” Pro with a packed RAM of 16 GB, that space fills up quickly with Zoom Meetings, study guides, and PowerPoint slides. And when you’re not running out of storage, you’re dealing with a slowed-down hard drive, maybe even apps that keep quitting on you. So what do you do when you’ve already poured your life savings into textbooks and getting the laptop in the first place? What are your most inexpensive options?

With so many Apple and other brand stores closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, it can be challenging to find a reliable laptop repair shop to handle your repairs. However, several computer repair shops, such as Wireless Revolution, are still open and serving their communities as essential businesses. So when you’re looking for “MacBook Pro repair near me,” your local computer or PC repair store will likely have some prime solutions for you.

Keyboard Replacement

Keys fall out or lose small parts underneath – it happens. These kinds of repairs can sometimes be simple fixes requiring more determination and patience than tech skill. If you purchased your laptop new from the manufacturer, it should come with a service manual detailing how to replace keyboard keys. Before unscrewing everything and possibly losing small pieces, be sure to gather the parts and tools you’ll need for the repair. You’ll also want to set up a workspace in which to operate on your device.

If you’ve taken a crack at it – or have decided that’s not for you! – and couldn’t quite figure out a solution, drop by Wireless Revolution’s store for professional and timely help you can count on.

New Hard Drive

Your hard drive is the warehouse of all your precious photos, files, and information. What happens when yours malfunctions? You take it to your local computer repair shop, that’s what. Whether it’s an HDD or an SSD, the drive also stores the operating system code, instructions for your internet browsers, and much more.

Screen Replacement

A variety of mistakes can land you in need of a screen repair, or even screen replacement. For this type of repair, you’ll want to find the best local computer repair shop near you. Once you’ve had the experts fix your screen, consider investing in some screen protection. Phone cases won’t cut it; we suggest buying a screen protector as well.

Liquid Damage Repair

When you knock your coffee over on your laptop screen, quick action is in order. First, unplug the power cord and pull out any other cords. Sending juice to a wet laptop is the last kind of problem you want on your hands. Lightly dab at the moisture on the computer, making sure none has seeped into the vent holes at the top of the keyboard. Finally, flip the laptop over and prop it up, screen facing down.

Whether you decide to handle your repair on your own or you head to a local repair shop right away, consider stopping by Wireless Revolution. You shouldn’t have to wait forever to get your precious device back, especially in the midst of the school semester! Drop by or give us a call today to start your essential repair.

Why You Should Fix Your Smartphone

If you own an iPhone and you’re a human being, chances are you need a screen repair! Either you dropped your phone on the kitchen floor, your kid got a hold of it, or it fell out of your pocket – no matter the amount of “UE”s, Apple iPhones are known for easily cracked screens.

Before you decide that you can live with your cracked iPhone 8 screen, consider these points.

It only gets worse

With one or two cracks in your screen, the problem will spread into a webbing of cracks that will soon hinder or halt the phone’s use altogether. At this point, it might even be more cost-effective to purchase a new phone.

Broken iPhone Screen

You might run into other problems

As the cracks in your screen widen, they allow for water and grit to slip in. At this point, not only will you struggle to read your screen, now you’ll also have to wrestle with water damage and malfunctioning beneath your screen. When you do take your phone into a repair shop, you could rack up quite the bill on a screen repair and a phone water damage repair.

It’ll be harder to sell the phone

While you may not be thinking about trading in your old iPhone 5S for a new iPhone 11 just yet, the overall appearance – and hence, vendibility –  of your phone should be important to you. Unfortunately, the accrued damage may cause the costs of a phone screen repair to outweigh the benefits. At that point, finding a buyer ready to accept your overwhelmingly damaged phone might be too much of a headache.

It looks unprofessional

You might also consider that using an obviously cracked iPhone or Samsung Galaxy actually leaves a negative impression with those around you. You can have the Maserati, the executive job, or even the perfect wardrobe. But a banged-up phone can still do some serious social damage.

Hopefully, you now understand how impactful your cracked screen can be. There are several ways you could protect your screen from further damage if it’s already suffered some bumps and bruises. Or maybe you’ve gone through a screen repair before, and you’re wondering what steps you can take to prevent it happening again. Let’s check out a couple of ways of doing that.

Tips on Safeguarding Your Smartphone

Screen Protector on iPhone

Use a screen protector

While a screen case is great (we’ll discuss that in the next section), investing in a screen protector is another one of the best ways you can safeguard your phone. You can avoid several coffees-worth of iPhone 8s screen repairs by simply purchasing a screen protector with your phone and having an experienced tech install it for you. Or, you can also install it yourself if you’re confident in your skills. (But we highly recommend coming out to Wireless Revolution to have one of our guys give your phone the TLC it deserves.)

Invest in a quality screen case

Nothing says “fix my phone” like a cellphone without a case. Would you really purchase a brand new car and not park it safely in your garage? Similarly, a good quality phone screen case guarantees longer device life (and fewer heart attacks when you inevitably drop your phone again).

Make sure your phone repair shop offers a warranty

A long warranty for a repair is a vote of confidence for the repair shop’s expertise. The longer the warranty, the greater chance your phone will stay repaired (and that you won’t wake up with a different problem the next day). Besides what it says about your repair technician’s work, a warranty also means extra security for you, your device, and your wallet. That’s why Wireless Revolution offers a guaranteed warranty for your peace of mind.

Expert Phone Repair Tech

Although we certainly hope you never run into this issue, you might be in need of a screen repair already. Do yourself a favor and stop by Wireless Revolution for a fast, professional repair that won’t leave you with more damage than you started with. We’ll make sure you and your phone have a repaired, fresh start.

How to Trade in Your Old Smartphone for Cash

The iPhone SE 2020 is here, and you’re ready. Or maybe you’ve been salivating over the Samsung Galaxy Note10 Plus. Your old phone is slowly giving up the ghost, or you’re just excited to upgrade. Whatever the reason, you now have to decide what to do with the old phone. You could try selling it yourself, or you could sell it to Wireless Revolution for a much better price (and without a lot of the hassle).

Before you sell your iPhone, Android, or other smartphone, though, make sure you follow these steps:

Backup Your Device

You don’t want your valuable (and possibly cashable) information in the wrong hands. Before you delete everything off your old iPhone or Android, be sure to transfer the data to your new device. Backing up your smartphone will ensure that the information you transferred to your new device is saved to the cloud. If you want to do this directly from your phone, select your name within your Settings, then tap “iCloud.” This will take you to the option of “iCloud Backup > Backup Now.”

For an Android, this process may require a few more steps. First, check that Google Photos, Gmail, and Google Contacts have cloud backups toggled on in your settings. Another option for backing up important data is utilizing a service like Google Drive, or even G Cloud Backup. After you’ve successfully saved your information on the cloud, be sure to remove all accounts saved on your Android phone. While you may want to delete your main Google account last, you can still select “Accounts” within your settings and remove all the other accounts from your device.

Headphones

Unpair devices

Keeping your old Bluetooth devices paired to your smartphone can put you at risk. Those devices could also mean trouble if they continue connecting to your old device rather than your new one. Before selling your smartphone, be sure to disconnect and “forget” all other devices. To do this, bring your Bluetooth devices near your phone, then go to “Bluetooth” in your Settings. Next to each device listed, tap for information and select “Forget This Device.”

While, like with the iPhone, your paired Android devices won’t connect to your out-of-range phone, it’s still a good idea to disconnect those Bluetooth headphones from your Android. In “Connected Devices” within Settings, tap the Settings gear icon next to each device and select “Forget.”

Sign out of the Cloud

You’re a few steps closer to handing in that old smartphone. Next, return to your settings and select “iCloud > Sign Out.” This will prompt you to “Delete from My [Device],” and will ask you to enter your Apple ID password. In order to sign out of iTunes, go back to the main page of your settings, and select “iTunes and App Store > Apple ID > Sign out.”

For an Android smartphone, be sure to perform a factory reset, and even consider removing your SIM card. For the first step, head over to “Settings > System > Advanced > Reset options > Erase all data (factory reset).” While this option may turn up in different locations depending on each model, you can do this on most Android phones (like the Pixel, for example). For removing the SIM card, locate the SIM tray at the end of your phone and use a paperclip to pop the tray open. Remove the card and destroy it if you plan to buy a new one, or keep it for use in your new smartphone.

Unlock iPhone

Disable “Find My Phone”

For Android users, the “Android Device Manager” feature offers a neat method of maintaining control over your phone, even from a long distance, and locking it (or erasing all data!). While it’s important to disable this program if you’re selling your Android, make sure you’ve already backed up all information first. When you’ve completed steps 1-4, check out your account here and locate the “Security” section. You can manage all your devices from the “Your Devices” heading. Find the phone you’d like to sell and select “Remove.”

iPhones allow users to disable this feature AND erase all content and settings in one fell swoop. Once in Settings, click “General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings,” then follow the next prompts until completion. This will allow your iPhone’s future owner to activate the smartphone, as well as keep them from accessing your private information.

Yes, these steps can be time-consuming, but yes, they’re important! Logging out of and deleting account information is a sure-fire way to keep future users from causing issues or accessing content you’d rather keep private.

Locked phone security

Now, you’re looking to sell that smartphone – and at a decent price, if you want your money’s worth. We know some tech experts and smartphone gurus at Wireless Revolution ready to inspect your device and offer top dollar (in cash!). Following the steps above will make sure this process saves you time, but we’re more than happy to help you in-store. Head over our location today and trade your old Android, iPhone, or other smartphone for cash!

Is the iPhone 11 worth it?

The new iPhone 11 is cheaper than you may have been expecting for an iPhone however the design is similar to last year’s model and not as sleek as the Pro. On the plus side, there is a strong, vibrant screen with an upgraded camera and the device is available in new colours!

The iPhone 11 is about to be released and make it into the hands of some iPhone fans and the new device has one big feature that matters most to iPhone users and that is a cheaper price. While new features are important, having a killer price is definitely something that will sway purchasing decisions more than any other element.

While the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max outshine the new iPhone in terms of headline specs and features, the new iPhone has a lower price than the iPhone XR and yet improves the specs and features in a few important areas.

The new iPhone is faster inside and comes equipped with a much, much improved camera as well as iOS 13 as standard. The amazing thing is that the iPhone 11 is able to offer all of this at a price that allows users to get a new iPhone for less than most top-end phones out there. Even though there are many improvements, the new iPhone 11 is far from the most advanced iPhone out there so it seems like Apple may have still missed something by attempting to offer a more affordable and competitively priced solution with a feature rich device.

The iPhone 11 release date is set for September 20, which is good news for anyone looking to get hold of Apple’s affordable new iPhone, as the XR hit stores later than the XS in 2018. If you’re ready to make a commitment to the new iPhone 11, pre-orders open on September 13.

Test Android Q Beta 5 now with its intricate gestures

The latest leak of Android Q initiated the release of its Beta 5 version recently.

While it might seem like a huge sigh of relief, much is not to be expected with this version until the main release. The release focuses on the members of the developer’s community in anticipation for the big one.

To put that in perspective, the gesture features available on the leaked version, its present on this – speaking of ” launch assistant by swiping from a corner.” The “peek” feature present at the back gesture is conversant with an app with slide out dashboard.

Swiping left or right all work in this new release but it is limited with your phone or app. Most phones would allow you to swipe in and out when using an app with just your left and the right touch. Others would prefer you still swipe out with the same left touch you went in with the menu.

Setting out the gestures is pretty fun for developers.

If you don’t get it at first, it is okay. Peeping from the back feature as it usually called behaves differently in different apps. To burst our bubble, the next release is meant to revert to a three-button navigation system for all who like using third-party launchers. Presumably, such a gesture will reflect on non-pixel phones. (Still wondering how Samsung will manage its right edge swipe display system). Interestingly, Google is of the opinion that issues regarding the launch will get fixed in an update after launch.

Google is taking this road because it somehow believes app developers will change the way their app operates and owing to the fact that it cannot release updates on every android user phones. Now we believe only apps designed for the three button layout Google proposes can reap the benefit.

Changes we expected and those that we didn’t on Beta 5

Notification is a leading topic when features get mentioned for Beta 5. One part goes for silent notification, another deal on “alert” base on in-app default settings. Alerts do appear first before silent notification though.  Both get placed at the top and bottom of each other.

Discretion should be taken to select what notification falls into each section, and if clearing silent notifications would be the best option with the “clear all” feature.

It will be great to know that the Android feature will launch a new dark theme for pixel gadgets. That move will seek to remove white as its central theme. Discretion must also go to users as the new animation might not display with a gadget of pixel 2 XL or 3 XL. Previously leaked features that didn’t make it were navigation pull down and back sensitivity adjustment slider. Hoping they get integrated into the main release.

How to acquire your Android Q Beta 5?

In a recent post, Google talked at length about its new features, including gestures, dark theme, navigation’s, and notifications. Developers who seek to test the release should be aware of the risk as issues are still in the beta stage. Notes have gone out to rectify specific problems though. Updates are rolling out to subscribers, including system image and OTA downloads. Subscribers should begin to get feedback soon. Many more updates are coming regarding this; all you have to do is stay tuned.

Huawei releasing a foldable phone to compete with Samsung

The Huawei launch drew in some big crowds to see the new foldable phone that is set to rival the new Samsung foldable, tablet-like phone. One of the major differences is the price tag. The Huawei phone is set to launch at $2500+ for the entry level model. To some, the price tag for the new 5-G enabled phone is too high however the feature list and the unique foldable design do offer some advantages over the Samsung foldable phone.

The Chinese phone maker launched its new, foldable device on the eve of the Mobile World Congress, a huge gathering of the mobile industry in Barcelona. The Mate X is set to compete with Samsung’s recently announced Galaxy Fold, which is priced at about $2000 before taxes. This is around $500-600 cheaper than the Mate X pricing that has been suggested.

The comparisons between the Samsung folding phone and the new Huawei foldable phone don’t stop at just the price however. Huawei made sure to highlight the foldable phone’s 5G connectivity, a technology at the center of its quest for global dominance in the smartphone market. Samsung will offer a version with 4G and a version with 5G that of course will come with different price tags.

Huawei’s phone folds out to a larger 8″ screen compared to the 7.3″ screen in Samsung’s Galaxy Fold. Additionally, when in phone mode, Huawei’s device sits in around 6.6 inches compared to the smaller 4.6 inches screen on the Samsung model. The Huawei phone is also only 11 mm thick compared to the thicker 17mm Galaxy fold so if you are someone that prefers a slimmer device to put in your jeans pocket then the Huawei may be a better choice for you in this department. Even though phone manufacturers have started to roll our foldable phones with a bang, many analysts remain skeptical about whether or not these devices will become a hot item among consumers.

“No matter how innovative and technology advanced the new device is, it will take a lot more time for a critical mass of consumers to experience the benefits of foldable phones and 5G technology,” said Thomas Husson, an analyst at Forrester.

Despite the critics, both Samsung and Huawei are convinced that foldable phones that act much like tablets will catch on and become in high-demand as the consumer base evolves in the wireless phone market.

Huawei did not make the new phones available for analysts and journalists were only allowed to peer at the devices through glass walls, which were closely watched by security guards. Samsung said it expects to launch the Galaxy Fold on April 26. Huawei didn’t give a date yet. Hopefully we will be able to get both phones in our Ottawa wireless shop soon so that you can come in and check them out first hand and compare to see if this is the perfect upgrade for your next smart phone… or tablet… or both as the foldable phones give you the best of both worlds.

We’ll keep you posted once we have our Samsung versions in the Spring and hopefully the Huawei MateX will be arriving shortly after.

3 Things To Do After Breaking A Smartphone Screen

We’ve seen thousands of broken screens and screen protectors in the last few years as more and more phones are made with glass and delicate components. It happens to all of us so not to worry if this is your first broken screen. With our experience seeing soo many broken screens and repairing broken screens for customers, we have some tips on how you can prevent further damage to your smartphone from a broken screen. After all, fixing a broken screen can already be a hassle and sometimes a costly one so you won’t want to make matters worse.

The following tips will help you know what to do if you have a broken smart phone screen.

Tip #1: Don’t remove anything or take anything off

If you have a screen protector on then it is best to leave it on – even if it is cracked as well. If you try to pull off the screen protector then you will likely pull off parts of the glass underneath which will make the damage worse and can even damage elements and components of your smart phone that were not damaged before such as the digitizer. The best thing to do is leave it as-is and seek out our smart phone repair shop in Ottawa. Our professional smart phone repair techs have experience with how to properly take your smartphone apart so that there is no further damage to your device. This is the case for the majority of screen protectors with adhesive. If you have a case with a removable screen protector (ie. Otterbox Defender) then you can usually remove the screen protector on your own to inspect the damage underneath. In both cases, it is highly recommended to see a wireless repair shop though to properly repair your smart phone.

Tip #2: Keep your fingers safe from broken glass that can cut you

If you plan to use the smart phone for a period of time before a repair (hopefully to call our wireless repair shop to fix your phone) then it is recommended to put some clear packing tape over the glass. A strip across the screen can help to keep the glass in place so that it doesn’t fall off and also will protect your fingers from getting cut when using the touchscreen.

Tip #3: Try to prevent further damage

Once your screen is cracked it is broken and needs repair. This is true, although you can still use your smartphone in many cases if the damage is minor. If you didn’t have a screen protector before and the damage is minor (meaning just a small crack in your screen etc.) then you can likely add a screen protector overtop to keep everything in place and make the phone “usable” until you get the broken screen repaired at our shop.

If your screen is severely cracked then adding a screen protector won’t do much for you in the way of hiding the damage but it may get you a few more weeks of use compared to the clear packing tape mentioned in Tip #2. In any event, the most ideal solution is to get the cracked screen repaired as soon as possible.

In conclusion, a cracked smartphone screen sucks. You spent a lot of money on your device and while it may be tempting to throw in the towel and replace the phone, that is usually not necessary and will just cost you more than you need to spend. If you were already planning an upgrade of your phone then that makes sense but if this wasn’t on your list of things to do already than repairing  your cracked screen on your phone is the smartest and most economical option. Smart phone repairs are usually much more affordable than  you would expect. Even though cracked screen repairs range in price depending on the extent of the damage, it is far more affordable in the long run compared to upgrading the phone.

The best thing to do is bring your phone into our mobile repair shop and we’ll take a look and review some options with you for repair or replacement options so that you can make the choice that best suits your needs and situation. Regardless of the damage to your smart phone, we can usually fix it and do it without breaking the bank. Come see us at out fully renovated wireless repair shop in Ottawa and one of our friendly smart phone repair techs will take a look at your device to provide recommendations and a quote on the smart phone cracked screen repair costs.
